Yokohama is proud to be included on CDP’s prestigious A List for leadership in corporate sustainability, environmental transparency and climate change, marking its third consecutive year and sixth time overall being recognised by the global environmental non-profit organisation.

Zero emissions

We are determined to control harmful emissions not only by complying with international agreements on emission, and the regulations of each country, but also by voluntarily setting even stricter standards.

Key achievements

Zero emissions at Japanese plants

Since March 2006, all eight of Yokohama’s production sites in Japan have maintained zero emissions, and by the end of FY2009, they had achieved 100% industrial waste recycling.

Global emission reduction efforts

Yokohama factories in the Philippines, China, and Thailand have also achieved zero emissions in several areas. All overseas sites are working toward the same goal.

Driving sustainability forward

-30% CO₂ emissions

Since 2005, Yokohama has cut CO₂ emissions at its facilities by over 30%, advancing toward a 50% reduction goal by 2050.

-20% freshwater consumption

Advanced recycling systems have reduced freshwater consumption by 20% over the last five years.

25% recycled materials

Yokohama tyres now use 25% recycled and renewable materials, helping reduce environmental impact.

The Forever Forest project

The Forever Forest initiative is Yokohama’s long-term commitment to sustainability. Its aim is to create green spaces around our factories and offices worldwide. Launched in 2007, the initiative focuses on reforestation, CO₂ absorption, and biodiversity conservation.
By planting trees in Yokohama’s operating regions, the project reduces environmental impact, supports ecosystems, and engages local communities. With a goal to plant 1.5 million trees by 2030, Forever Forest reflects our enduring dedication to a greener future.

Decades of eco-friendly initiatives

For years, Yokohama has been developing breakthrough technologies to improve tyre efficiency and sustainability. From early research on reducing rolling resistance to today’s ultra-lightweight models, the company remains committed to innovative solutions that reduce fuel consumption, enhance safety, and minimise environmental impact.
1980s

Pioneering silica-based compounds

Yokohama began researching the use of silica in tyre compounds to improve both fuel efficiency and wet grip. This innovation laid the foundation for future advancements in low-rolling-resistance tyres.
1998

Launch of the DNA tyre series

Yokohama introduced the DNA series in Japan, setting a benchmark in eco-friendly innovation. Featuring advanced silica-based compounds, these tyres improved fuel efficiency without compromising performance.
2010

Birth of BluEarth, a new chapter in sustainable mobility

The BluEarth series, engineered with sustainability at its core, was launched to reduce CO₂ emissions while maintaining excellent driving characteristics.
2019

Leadership in energy-saving tyres

By 2019, 90.1% of Yokohama summer tyre sales in Japan came from fuel-efficient models, underscoring our leadership in sustainability.

Ultra-lightweight tyre: innovation in efficiency

Yokohama is reshaping the future of sustainable mobility with its ultra-lightweight tyre concept. It's designed to reduce weight by 50% compared to conventional models. By leveraging cutting-edge materials and advanced aerodynamics, we are improving fuel efficiency, reducing environmental impact, and enhancing driving performance in all conditions.

50% weight reduction

Engineered to be significantly lighter, this concept boosts fuel economy and cuts CO₂ emissions.

Aerodynamic side-fins

Directional fins on the inner and outer sidewalls minimise air resistance to enhance performance.

Optimised tread pattern

Engineered for superior grip to ensure safer braking on wet and icy roads.

Reinforced lightweight structure

A high-strength, thinner carcass and belt system enhance durability while minimising weight.

BluEarth tyre range

At Yokohama, we design tyres that deliver top performance while supporting a cleaner planet. BluEarth merges innovation with environmental responsibility to respond to the demands of modern mobility.
Engineered to reduce CO₂ emissions, boost fuel efficiency, and extend tyre life, BluEarth is more than a technology. It is our commitment to a sustainable future.

BluEarth at heart

The Earth is meant to be blue, and we want to keep it blue. Through focused action, taking one step at a time, we are working toward a cleaner and safer future for all.

BluEarth technology: innovation for sustainability

BluEarth technology represents Yokohama’s commitment to innovation and environmental sustainability. Our tyres are engineered with advanced materials to deliver high performance and minimise environmental impact.

Reduced rolling resistance

Bluearth tyres feature a unique tread design and advanced rubber compounds that reduce rolling resistance. This means less energy is needed to move the vehicle, leading to improved fuel efficiency and lower CO₂ emissions.

Eco-friendly materials

BluEarth tyres are made with sustainable materials that reduce the environmental footprint of the production process. This includes responsibly sourced compounds that help lower the carbon impact, maintaining high performance.

Enhanced durability

BluEarth tyres are built with advanced construction that extends their lifespan while lowering environmental impact. Longer-lasting tyres mean fewer replacements, less waste, and reduced demand for raw materials.

Innovative design for efficiency

Through advanced engineering, BluEarth tyres are optimised to balance performance and sustainability. The tread pattern is specifically designed to enhance fuel efficiency while maintaining traction and handling in various driving conditions.

More efficiency.
Less impact.
Better future

At Yokohama, sustainability is more than just a goal. It is the path we drive every day. Through innovation, eco-conscious technology, and a commitment to reducing our footprint, we create tyres that move the world forward.
